Journal entry 2: Day 2 at San Miguel's

My Second Day at San Miguel’s was very tiring. The night before I was up all night studying for my anatomy test. Even though I was extremely tired I pushed myself to go to San Miguel’s. Jorge told me, I would be working with the 5th grade again, I was happy. I helped this little boy out with his homework. Alfredo was very smart and needed little help, when he didn’t know a question he asked me and I explained to him the answer making sure he understood. He told me that I was very smart. I assured him that he is very smart as well. I helped him with Social Studies, English and Math. After those subjects were over I helped him study for his Science test he had the next day. as I was looking at what he needed to study for Science I was shocked to see that what he was learning was the same material that, I just took my anatomy test on. I was surprised that 5th graders were learning the same things I’m learning in college. As I was testing him, four more boys joined. I made a game out of studying on who can get the answer the fastest. I didn’t stop until each boy knew every flashcard and everyone had a turn to answer a question. When I was leaving, the boy who I was helping came up to me and gave me a pumpkin he painted in art class. He told me he wanted me to have it. This touched me so much that I still have the pumpkin to this day.
